Is this post wherein I speculate about how a person could try to go about placing a story in The New Yorker.
This is a post that no one has ever mentioned to me, but nearly one out of every 20 visits to this site are to that post. I think that almost all of the hits to the post are driven by search traffic. There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t get at least one hit from a search term that’s something like “how to get published in the new yorker” or “submitting to the new yorker” (today I got three hits from those two search terms).
It’s kind of funny. This is a topic about which I know almost nothing. However, there is so much desire to be published in the New Yorker and so little concrete information on how to do it that my uneducated suppositions are what passes for solid information about the topic. Actually, I’ve seen this post cited pretty authoritatively in discussion threads by aspiring writers, only to have another writer come in and be like, “Err, that guy admits that he has no idea what he’s talking about.”
Anyway, just goes to show that you never know which posts are going to catch on.
