With the capture of Serbian leader Radovan Karadzic, who is accused of ordering the Srebrenica massacre, it’s well worth remembering (yet again) that the international community is terrible at protecting people.
I get it though, it’s hard to prevent war crimes like Srebrenica. It’s especially hard when you get together a bunch of Bosniaks, take away their guns, promise to protect them, and then run away. It’s much easier to wait thirteen years and then catch the guy who ordered it while he’s about to go on a spa vacation. Unfortunately, the latter action doesn’t save a single life. It does have the good effect of being stunningly self-righteous, though.
